Part Two:
Orlean the Bead Dog finally made it to his very first king cake party. He learned that the colors of the icing all stand for different things. Green is for faith, purple is for justice, and Gold is for power.
The name King cake is derived from the Three Wise Men, who came bearing gifts for newborn Jesus. King cake is first served on King’s Day (January 6). Hidden in the cake is a small plastic baby. The plastic baby symbolizes the baby Jesus. Tradition dictates that finding the baby in your cake piece symbolizes responsibility of providing the next king cake. After learning some really cool facts and information about King cake and why we eat it and have it for Mardi gras Orlean got to try some of the very best king cakes in the area. He had trouble picking a favorite. Maybe you guys can help him choose a winner.
